Melamine

Melamine (CAS 108-78-1) is a nitrogen-rich triazine compound, also known by trade names Cymel and Cyanuramide, and by the synonym Cyanurtriamide. In flame retardant applications, melamine acts by releasing nitrogen gases during thermal decomposition, diluting combustible vapors and interrupting the combustion cycle. In thermoset resin systems and laminates, it reacts with formaldehyde to form melamine-formaldehyde resins that provide char-forming fire resistance. It also serves as an antimicrobial agent in textile and leather processing.
