Description

Melamine cyanurate (CAS 37640-57-6, EC 253-575-7), also known as melamine isocyanurate or MCA, is a halogen-free flame retardant formed by the equimolar combination of melamine and cyanuric acid. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially available under various trade designations across European markets.

In glass-filled polyamide and thermoplastic compounds, melamine cyanurate acts by decomposing endothermically at elevated temperatures, releasing inert gases that dilute combustible volatiles and interrupt the combustion cycle. It is also applied in textile back-coatings and intumescent building materials where controlled char formation limits flame spread.

Melamine cyanurate is supplied as a fine white powder in standard industrial grades, with particle size and surface treatment options available depending on the polymer matrix. It is registered under REACH and compliant with RoHS requirements in relevant applications. Packaging typically follows 25 kg bags or bulk formats for industrial procurement.
