Description

Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), also known as Butanone or 2-Butanone and sold under trade names such as KF 62, is a low-molecular-weight ketone solvent with CAS number 78-93-3. It is miscible with most organic solvents and dissolves a broad range of resins, waxes, and polymers at room temperature.

In coatings and adhesives manufacturing, MEK dissolves nitrocellulose, vinyl, and acrylic resins to produce smooth, fast-drying films with controlled viscosity. In electronics fabrication and metalworking, it removes flux residues, oils, and surface contaminants through direct solvent action without leaving residue, making it suitable for precision cleaning prior to bonding or coating operations.

MEK is supplied in industrial grades compliant with REACH regulations and is available in standard drum and IBC packaging formats. Procurement teams should confirm purity specifications and SDS documentation with the supplier, as grade requirements vary between coating, cleaning, and printing applications.
