Description
Methyl nadic anhydride (MNA) is a cyclic dicarboxylic anhydride supplied as a clear light yellow oily liquid, registered under CAS 25134-21-8 and EC 246-644-8. It is commercially available under trade names including MEA 610, Epicure NMA, EPON Hardener MNA, and Methendic Anhydride. No E-code designation applies to this substance.
In epoxy resin systems, MNA functions as a low-viscosity curing agent, reacting with epoxide groups to form ester crosslinks that deliver high thermal stability and electrical insulation properties. It is used in electrical encapsulation and potting compounds, where its slow reactivity at room temperature allows extended pot life before elevated-temperature cure. Aerospace and automotive composite manufacturers also use it to produce laminates with consistent mechanical performance.
MNA is supplied under REACH compliance for the European market and is available in standard industrial drum and IBC formats. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications and inhibitor content with the supplier, as formulation requirements vary across electronics and structural composite applications.
