Description
Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA, CAS 105-59-9) is a tertiary alkanolamine also identified under the names Methyliminodiethanol and N-Methyldiethanolamine. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29221940. It is commercially available as a liquid amine with moderate basicity and selective reactivity.
In natural gas processing, MDEA selectively absorbs hydrogen sulphide over carbon dioxide, enabling targeted acid gas removal without excessive CO2 co-absorption. In personal care formulations, it acts as a pH buffer and neutralising agent for anionic polymers, and its hydroxyl groups contribute humectant behaviour in conditioning systems.
