Description

MGDA trisodium salt (CAS 164462-16-2, EC 605-362-9) is the fully neutralised sodium form of methylglycinediacetic acid, a biodegradable aminopolycarboxylate chelating agent. It is commercially available under trade names including Trilon M Liquid and Dissolvine M 40, and is commonly abbreviated as MGDA-Na3. No E-code designation applies.

In water treatment, MGDA-Na3 sequesters calcium, magnesium, and heavy metal ions by forming stable, soluble complexes that prevent scale formation and interfere with mineral deposition on surfaces. In textile and pulp processing, it deactivates metal ions that would otherwise catalyse fibre degradation or interfere with bleaching chemistry, improving process consistency and product quality.

MGDA trisodium salt is supplied as a powder or crystalline solid and falls under HS code 2922.49.8000. It is subject to REACH registration and is recognised for its favourable biodegradability profile relative to legacy chelants. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications and packaging formats directly with the supplier.
