Description
Molecular sieves (CAS 1327-44-2, EC 215-479-3) are synthetic aluminosilicate crystalline structures with precisely defined pore sizes, used to selectively adsorb molecules based on size and polarity. They are commercially available under trade names including GW 80, Geopolymite 70, Geopolymite GP 140, Lanco Mikal 00180, and MOLECULAR SIEVES 5.
In pharmaceutical manufacturing, molecular sieves remove trace moisture from solvents and reaction media by trapping water molecules within their uniform pore network, preventing hydrolysis-sensitive compounds from degrading. In natural gas processing, they selectively adsorb hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide from gas streams, enabling pipeline-grade purity. Printing ink formulators use them as carriers to control solvent release rates during drying.
This material is supplied in rod form and falls under REACH registration requirements for EU procurement. Grades are available to meet pharmaceutical and industrial specifications. Buyers should confirm pore size designation (3A, 4A, or 5A) when sourcing to match application requirements.
