Description

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2, CAS 1317-33-5) is an inorganic solid lubricant and mineral pigment traded under names including DAG 325, Mopol S, and Mopol M. It carries no E-code designation and is classified under HS code 28309090 within the Salts and Minerals category.

In lubricant and metalworking formulations, MoS2 reduces friction between metal surfaces by forming a low-shear lamellar film that bonds to the substrate under pressure. In coatings and sealants, it functions as a dry-film lubricant and corrosion-resistant pigment. Personal care applications exploit its skin-conditioning and protective properties at controlled inclusion levels.

MoS2 is supplied as a dark grey to black powder in technical and purified grades, with particle size specifications available depending on application requirements. The substance is registered under REACH and must be handled in accordance with applicable EU chemical safety obligations. Standard packaging includes multi-wall bags and bulk containers.
