Description

Monoammonium phosphate (MAP, NH4H2PO4, CAS 7722-76-1) is an inorganic salt formed from ammonia and phosphoric acid. It is also referred to as ammonium biphosphate or ammonium dihydrogen phosphate and carries no assigned E-code, as it is not approved as a food additive in the EU.

In agriculture, MAP serves as a concentrated source of nitrogen and phosphorus, delivering nutrients in a form directly available for plant uptake. In flame retardant applications, it decomposes under heat to release ammonia and phosphoric acid, which together interrupt combustion and promote char formation on treated textiles, paper, and construction materials.

MAP is available in technical and fertilizer grades as a white crystalline powder or granule. It is registered under REACH and subject to standard industrial handling requirements. Typical packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk formats; buyers should confirm grade specifications against application requirements before procurement.
