Description

Monopotassium glutamate (MPG) is the potassium salt of glutamic acid, commonly referenced under trade names such as Kaglutam and abbreviated as MPG. It carries no assigned E-number in the EU but is recognized in food-grade and pharmaceutical ingredient inventories under CAS 19473-49-5.

In food and nutrition applications, MPG functions as a flavor modulator and salt replacer, activating umami taste receptors to reduce sodium content without sacrificing savory intensity. In pharmaceutical formulations, it serves as a buffering agent and potassium source in oral and parenteral preparations, where controlled ionic balance is required.

MPG is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade powder forms, with compliance referenced against FCC and relevant REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Procurement teams should confirm grade specification and documentation requirements, including certificate of analysis and safety data sheet, prior to ordering.
