Description

Monosodium N-stearoylglutamate (CAS 38517-23-6) is an amino acid-based anionic surfactant derived from glutamic acid and stearic acid. It is commercially available under trade names including Amisoft HS 11 and Amisoft HS 11P and carries no assigned E-code, as it is not approved as a food additive in the EU.

In personal care formulations, it functions as an emulsifier by stabilising oil-water interfaces through its dual hydrophilic-lipophilic structure, making it suitable for skin creams and cleansing products where mild surfactancy is required. Its surface-active properties also support wetting and dispersion of pigments or active ingredients in leave-on and rinse-off cosmetic systems.

Monosodium N-stearoylglutamate is supplied as a solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market access. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications directly with the supplier, as cosmetic-grade material must meet relevant purity standards for personal care applications.
