Description

Myristyl Lactate (CAS 1323-03-1) is an ester of myristic acid and lactic acid, sold under trade names including Crodamol ML, Dermol ML, Ceraphyl 50, and Cegesoft C 17. It carries no E-code designation and is used primarily in personal care formulations where controlled emolliency and skin-feel modification are required.

In leave-on skin care and colour cosmetics, Myristyl Lactate functions as an emollient and plasticiser by intercalating between lipid layers in the stratum corneum, reducing transepidermal water loss without occlusion. It also acts as a polar solvent and dispersant for pigments and UV filters, improving spreadability and reducing the chalky drag common in high-pigment formulations.

The material is available in cosmetic-grade quality and is compliant with REACH regulations for supply within the EU. It is typically supplied in drums or IBCs and should be evaluated against current INCI and ISO 16128 documentation requirements when used in natural or organic-positioned formulations.
