N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N',N'-triacetic acid

N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N',N'-triacetic acid (CAS 150-39-0) is a selective aminopolycarboxylate chelating agent, commonly known as HEEDTA or HOEDTA and sold under trade names such as Chel DM Acid. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive.

In water treatment, HEEDTA sequesters calcium, magnesium, and heavy metal ions at elevated pH, preventing scale formation and metal-catalysed degradation. In textile and leather processing, it deactivates trace iron and copper ions that would otherwise catalyse dye decomposition or oxidative damage to fibres, improving process consistency and product quality.

HEEDTA is supplied as a crystalline powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area.
