Description
N-Tert-Butylacrylamide (CAS 107-58-4, EC 203-505-6, formula C7H13NO) is an acrylamide-based monomer also referred to as tert-Butylacrylamide, N-t-Butylacrylamide, and N-t-Butyl-2-propenamide. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29241990 for customs purposes.
In water treatment and polymer manufacturing, N-tert-Butylacrylamide is copolymerized with acrylic acid or acrylamide to produce hydrophobically modified polyelectrolytes that control viscosity and flocculation behavior. In coatings and adhesives, its tert-butyl group introduces steric bulk into the polymer backbone, tuning glass transition temperature and improving substrate adhesion without plasticizers.
The material is supplied as a white to off-white powder or chunks and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Union. Procurement teams should confirm inhibitor levels and storage conditions with the supplier, as acrylamide-class monomers require stabilization against premature polymerization during transport and warehousing.
