Nickel carbonate

Nickel carbonate (CAS 3333-67-3, EC 222-068-2) is an inorganic nickel salt also referred to as nickelous carbonate or nickel(II) carbonate. It carries no assigned E-code and is supplied as a light green solid with the molecular formula CH2O3.Ni.

In mining and metallurgy, nickel carbonate serves as a precursor in nickel refining and electroplating bath formulations, where its controlled decomposition releases nickel ions at defined pH levels. In catalysis, it acts as a catalyst precursor for hydrogenation reactions, converting to active nickel oxide or metallic nickel upon calcination. Personal care formulators use it as a pH buffer and skin-conditioning agent in select topical preparations.
