Nickel

Nickel (CAS 7440-02-0, EC 231-853-9, formula Ni) is a transition metal commercially available under designations including NP 2, Ni 270, and Fibrex, as well as the Italian trade name Nichel. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under Salts & Minerals for industrial supply purposes.

In heterogeneous catalysis, nickel acts as an active surface site that facilitates hydrogenation reactions, including the conversion of unsaturated fats and petrochemical feedstocks. In metalworking and electronics, nickel coatings and alloy additions provide electrochemical corrosion resistance by forming a stable passive oxide layer on base metal surfaces.

Nickel is supplied in wire form and in grades such as Ni 270 (high-purity, 99.97% minimum) and the 1 wt% reference standard. Procurement must account for REACH registration obligations and SVHC classification requirements applicable within the EU. HS code 38151100 applies for customs classification.
