Description

Nickel(II) nitrate, also known as nickel dinitrate or nickelous nitrate, is an inorganic nickel salt formed from nickel and nitric acid. It is commercially available primarily as the hexahydrate form and carries no E-code designation. It is subject to REACH regulation within the European Union.

In electroplating and surface finishing, nickel(II) nitrate serves as a nickel ion source in bath formulations, where it improves deposit uniformity and controls conductivity. In catalyst preparation, it acts as a nickel precursor that decomposes upon calcination to yield nickel oxide active phases used in hydrogenation and reforming processes.

Nickel(II) nitrate is supplied in technical and reagent grades, typically as crystalline hexahydrate in quantities ranging from laboratory packaging to bulk industrial formats. Procurement must account for its classification as a hazardous substance under REACH, with nickel compounds listed as substances of very high concern due to carcinogenicity and environmental toxicity.
