Description
Nickel sulfate (CAS 7786-81-4, EC 232-104-9), also known as NiSO4, nickel sulphate, or nickelous sulfate, is an inorganic nickel salt with no assigned E-code. It is commercially available in anhydrous and hydrated forms and is registered under REACH as a substance of very high concern (SVHC).
In electroplating and surface finishing, nickel sulfate serves as the primary nickel ion source in Watts bath formulations, depositing uniform nickel coatings onto metal substrates. In battery manufacturing, it functions as a precursor for nickel-rich cathode materials in lithium-ion cells. It also acts as a catalyst and oxidizing agent in select chemical synthesis processes.
Nickel sulfate is supplied in technical and electroplating grades, with purity levels typically ranging from 98% to 99.5%. Due to its SVHC classification under REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, procurement requires documented authorization and supply chain communication. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities for industrial buyers.
