Description

Nitrogen (N2, CAS 7727-37-9, EC 231-783-9) is a diatomic, inert gas comprising approximately 78% of the Earth's atmosphere. It is commonly referred to as dinitrogen or LN2 in its liquid cryogenic form. No E-code designation applies to nitrogen used in industrial applications.

In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, nitrogen displaces oxygen in packaging headspace to inhibit oxidative degradation and microbial growth, extending shelf life without chemical additives. In electronics fabrication, nitrogen purges process chambers and reflow ovens to prevent oxidation of sensitive components during soldering and deposition processes.

Nitrogen is supplied as a compressed gas or cryogenic liquid, with grades including food-grade (FCC-compliant), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur. monograph), and industrial-grade. It is fully REACH-registered and available in cylinders, bulk dewars, and on-site generation systems depending on volume requirements.
