Description
Nonylphenol Ethoxylate (NPE), CAS 9016-45-9, is a nonionic surfactant produced by ethoxylating nonylphenol with varying numbers of ethylene oxide units. It is sold under trade names including TX-13, TX-18, TX-21, TX-40, and NP12EO, with the ethylene oxide chain length determining HLB value and application suitability.
In textile processing, NPE functions as a scouring and wetting agent by reducing interfacial tension between fiber surfaces and aqueous baths, enabling uniform dye penetration. In agricultural formulations, it emulsifies oil-based active ingredients into stable water-dispersible concentrates, improving pesticide coverage and uptake on leaf surfaces.
NPE is available in multiple ethoxylation grades corresponding to different HLB ranges, supplied in drums and IBC containers. Procurement should note that NPE is subject to REACH restriction under Annex XVII Entry 46, limiting use in certain concentrations in industrial and consumer applications within the EU. Buyers should confirm end-use compliance prior to ordering.
