Octadecyl acrylate, also known as stearyl acrylate and sold under trade names including SR 257, Blemmer SA, and Exceparl S (CAS 4813-57-4), is a long-chain alkyl acrylate monomer derived from acrylic acid and stearyl alcohol. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC number 225-383-3.
In polymer synthesis, octadecyl acrylate is incorporated into acrylic copolymers to introduce hydrophobic, waxy character that improves lubricity and film flexibility in coatings and adhesives.
