Description

Octyl salicylate (CAS 6969-49-9, EC 230-190-2), also known as capryl salicylate or n-octyl salicylate, is an ester of salicylic acid and octanol. It carries no assigned E-code and is referenced in chemical literature under NSC 68365 and NSC 28914.

In sunscreen and UV-protective cosmetic formulations, octyl salicylate absorbs UVB radiation in the 280–320 nm range, reducing photodegradation of both the formula and the skin. It also functions as a co-solvent, improving the solubility and spreadability of other UV filters such as avobenzone in emulsion systems.

Octyl salicylate is supplied as a cosmetic-grade colourless oily liquid compliant with REACH registration requirements and applicable INCI standards for personal care use. It is available in standard drum and IBC packaging formats. Buyers should confirm purity specifications and regional regulatory status, particularly for pharmaceutical or leave-on cosmetic applications.
