Description

Octyl stearate (CAS 109-36-4) is a fatty acid ester produced by reacting stearic acid with octanol. It is sold under trade names including NJLUB OS and Lasemul 130, and is also referred to as n-octyl stearate or octyl octadecanoate. It carries no assigned E-code.

In personal care formulations, octyl stearate functions as an emollient carrier, improving spreadability and active ingredient delivery without leaving a heavy residue. In lubricant and metalworking applications, it reduces friction between metal surfaces through its ester-based film-forming mechanism. It also acts as a plasticizer in polymer processing, increasing flexibility by reducing intermolecular forces within the polymer matrix.

Octyl stearate is supplied in liquid form and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market access. Grades suitable for cosmetic applications are available and should conform to relevant INCI and regional cosmetic regulatory standards. Packaging formats typically include drums and intermediate bulk containers.
