Description

Pectin (CAS 9000-69-5, EC 232-553-0) is a naturally derived polysaccharide extracted primarily from citrus peel and apple pomace. It is commercially available under names including Marpeeom and Marpeenl, and is regulated under E440 in the European Union for food applications.

In food and beverage formulation, pectin functions as a gelling agent in jams and fruit preparations by forming hydrogen-bonded networks in the presence of sugar and acid, or calcium ions depending on the grade. In pharmaceutical oral dosage forms, it acts as a controlled-release matrix material, and in personal care emulsions it stabilises dispersions through viscosity modification.

Pectin is supplied as an off-white to beige powder in food-grade, FCC, and Ph.Eur.-compliant grades. Both high-methoxyl and low-methoxyl variants are available to suit specific formulation requirements. The product is subject to REACH registration and classified under HS code 13022000.
