Description

Pentaerythritol (CAS 115-77-5) is a polyol alcohol produced through the condensation of acetaldehyde and formaldehyde. It is commercially available under trade names including Pentek, Penetek, Auxinutril, Maxinutril, and Monopentek. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In alkyd resin production, pentaerythritol reacts with fatty acids to form esters that serve as film-forming binders in paints and coatings, improving durability and drying performance. It also functions as a building block for synthetic lubricant esters, where its four hydroxyl groups enable high-viscosity, thermally stable base fluids suited to metalworking and industrial applications.

Pentaerythritol is supplied in technical and refined grades, typically as a white crystalline powder, and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Packaging is available in 25 kg bags and bulk quantities. Buyers should confirm grade suitability against application-specific purity requirements prior to procurement.
