Pentaethylene glycol monododecyl ether (CAS 3055-95-6), also known as C12E5, Laureth-5, and DODECYLPENTAGLYCOL, is a nonionic ethoxylated fatty alcohol surfactant with five ethylene oxide units attached to a twelve-carbon lauryl chain. It carries no assigned E-code and is catalogued under EC 221-281-8.
In textile processing, C12E5 functions as an emulsifier in fiber lubricant formulations, where its balanced HLB value stabilises oil-in-water systems under mechanical stress. In personal care, it acts as a solubiliser and emulsification agent in rinse-off products, enabling uniform dispersion of conditioning actives. Its moderate ethoxylation degree also supports degreasing in leather processing baths.
