Description
Pentasodium DTPA (CAS 140-01-2) is a synthetic aminopolycarboxylate chelating agent supplied as a clear light yellow solution. It is also known under trade names including Trilon C, Chel 330, Plexene, and Syntron, and is registered under EC 205-391-3. No E-code designation applies to this substance.
In water treatment, pentasodium DTPA sequesters heavy metal ions such as iron, copper, and manganese, preventing scale formation and oxidative degradation in process water. In personal care formulations, it deactivates trace metals that would otherwise catalyse rancidity in emulsions and reduce preservative efficacy. Pulp and paper producers use it to control metal-catalysed bleach decomposition during hydrogen peroxide bleaching stages.
Pentasodium DTPA is available in solution grade for industrial and personal care applications and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against FCC or relevant pharmacopoeial standards depending on end-use sector. Standard packaging formats include IBC containers and bulk tanker delivery.
