Description

Phenethyl alcohol (CAS 60-12-8), also known as PEA, β-PEA, phenethanol, and FEMA 2858, is a naturally occurring aromatic alcohol with a characteristic rose-like scent. It is found in rose, carnation, and ylang-ylang essential oils and is produced synthetically for commercial supply.

In personal care formulations, PEA functions as a broad-spectrum preservative by disrupting microbial cell membranes, effective against both gram-positive bacteria and fungi at concentrations typically between 0.5% and 1.0%. In food and flavour applications, it acts as a floral flavourant and contributes antioxidant activity, particularly in bakery and confectionery products.

Phenethyl alcohol is available in cosmetic, food-grade (FCC), and fragrance-grade specifications. It is fully registered under REACH and compliant with EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Standard packaging includes drums and IBCs, with supply documented to ISO-certified quality standards.
