Description
Phosphoric acid (H3PO4, CAS 7664-38-2, E338, FEMA 2900) is an inorganic mineral acid produced primarily through wet-process or thermal treatment of phosphate rock. It is commercially available as aqueous solutions ranging from 75% to 85% concentration and is registered under EC number 231-633-2.
In water treatment, phosphoric acid sequesters calcium and iron ions through chelation, preventing scale formation in pipelines and boilers. In food and beverage production, it functions as an acidulant and pH buffer, providing the characteristic tartness in cola formulations while controlling microbial stability. In metal surface treatment, it converts iron oxide to iron phosphate, creating a stable conversion coating prior to painting or galvanizing.
Phosphoric acid is sourced in food-grade (FCC, E338), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.), and technical-grade forms, with supply fully compliant with REACH regulation. Standard packaging includes IBC containers, drums, and bulk tanker delivery. Certificates of analysis and safety data sheets are available upon request.
