Description

Piperidine (CAS 110-89-4) is a six-membered saturated nitrogen-containing ring compound, also known commercially as hexazane, azacyclohexane, cypentil, and perhydropyridine. It belongs to the amine chemical family and carries no assigned E-code, as it is not used as a food additive.

In pharmaceutical synthesis, piperidine serves as a building block for active ingredients including antihistamines, analgesics, and CNS drugs, where its secondary amine group enables nucleophilic reactions with electrophilic intermediates. In rubber processing, it functions as a vulcanization accelerator, and in polymer chemistry it initiates anionic polymerization reactions by acting as a base catalyst.

Piperidine is supplied under REACH registration and handled in accordance with applicable EU chemical regulations. It is available in standard industrial drum and IBC formats, with pharmaceutical-grade material conforming to relevant pharmacopoeial specifications where required. Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against their specific synthesis or processing requirements.
