Description

Poly(ethylene glycol) butyl ether (CAS 9004-77-7) is a nonionic polyether alcohol built from an ethylene oxide chain capped with a butyl group. It is sold under trade names including Butoxytrigol, Laprol 501, Adeka Carpol M-2, and DCP 208, and carries the E-code designation E 1A as a permitted surfactant.

In textile and leather processing, it acts as a levelling and wetting agent by reducing interfacial tension between aqueous dye baths and hydrophobic fibre surfaces. In metalworking fluids, it functions as a co-solvent and emulsifier, keeping lubricant components in stable dispersion under high-shear conditions. Personal care formulators use it as a carrier solvent to solubilise fragrance oils and active ingredients in aqueous systems.

The material is supplied in compliance with REACH registration requirements and is available in standard industrial drum and IBC formats. Buyers should confirm grade specification against intended application, as molecular weight distribution affects HLB value and solubility behaviour.
