Polyepoxysuccinic acid

Polyepoxysuccinic acid (PESA, CAS 51274-37-4) is a non-phosphorus, biodegradable polymer built from epoxysuccinic acid repeat units. It is commercially available under trade names including Alcosperse 765 and MK 2. No E-code applies to this substance.

PESA functions primarily as a scale inhibitor and corrosion inhibitor in industrial water systems, including cooling towers and oilfield injection water. It disrupts crystal growth of calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and barium sulfate by adsorbing onto nucleation sites, preventing deposit formation on metal surfaces. Its chelating capacity also keeps metal ions in solution under high-hardness conditions.

PESA is supplied as an aqueous solution in standard IBC and drum formats for industrial procurement. It falls under REACH registration requirements for EU supply and is subject to standard industrial chemical handling classifications. Buyers should confirm grade specifications and active content with the supplier prior to formulation.
