Description

Polyethylene glycol monostearate (CAS 9004-99-3), also known by trade designations S541, S1004, S1012, S1054, and S1116, is a nonionic surfactant produced by esterifying stearic acid with polyethylene glycol. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 3907200000.

In cosmetic formulations, it functions as an oil-in-water emulsifier, stabilising creams and lotions by reducing interfacial tension between aqueous and lipid phases. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a carrier and solubiliser for active ingredients in topical and oral dosage forms. The textile industry uses it as a fibre lubricant and antistatic agent during processing.

The material is available in grades compliant with Ph.Eur. and FCC monographs, supporting pharmaceutical and food-contact applications respectively. It falls under REACH regulation and is supplied as powder or lump solid. Standard packaging formats include fibre drums and multiwall bags.
