Polyglyceryl-10 stearate

Polyglyceryl-10 stearate (CAS 79777-30-3, molecular formula C48H96O22) is a polyglycerol ester of stearic acid formed by esterifying decaglycerol with one stearic acid unit. It is commercially available under trade names including Poem J-0081, Poem J-0081HV, Decaglyn 1S, Sunsoft Q-18S, and Sunsoft Q-18Y. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive under EU regulation.

In food emulsion systems, polyglyceryl-10 stearate stabilises oil-in-water interfaces by reducing interfacial tension, preventing droplet coalescence in products such as low-fat dressings and dairy alternatives. In cosmetic formulations, it functions as an O/W emulsifier and co-emulsifier that also contributes to viscosity structuring, enabling stable creams and lotions without synthetic co-surfactants.

Polyglyceryl-10 stearate is supplied in solid or paste grades depending on the manufacturer and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU import and use.
