Description

Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a high-performance semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer, commercially known under trade names such as Ryton, W 203, W 205, and W 214. Identified by CAS 25212-74-2 and EC 607-869-0, it is produced by the polymerization of p-dichlorobenzene with sodium sulfide, yielding a rigid aromatic backbone linked by sulfide bonds.

In automotive and aerospace applications, PPS is compounded with glass or carbon fiber to produce structural components that retain mechanical integrity above 200°C and resist hydraulic fluids and fuels. In electronics, it is injection-molded into precision connectors and housings where dimensional stability under thermal cycling is critical to component reliability.

PPS is supplied as a fine powder suitable for compounding, injection molding, and coating processes. It falls under REACH regulation and requires standard SDS documentation for EU trade. Procurement quantities typically range from kilogram-scale samples to bulk industrial lots depending on grade specification.
