Polyquaternium-4

Polyquaternium-4 (CAS 92183-41-0, EC 618-826-0) is a cationic cellulose-derived polymer carrying permanent quaternary ammonium charges along its backbone. It is commercially available under trade names including Celquat H-100, Celquat L-200, Celquat LV, and Celquat LOR.

In personal care formulations, Polyquaternium-4 deposits onto negatively charged hair and skin surfaces through electrostatic attraction, improving wet combing, reducing static, and building conditioning film without heavy residue. In textile processing, it functions as a substantive finishing agent, modifying fiber surface charge to improve softness and antistatic performance.

Polyquaternium-4 is supplied in powder and aqueous solution grades, with concentration and viscosity varying by grade to suit specific processing requirements. The substance is registered under REACH and must be handled in accordance with applicable EU cosmetic and industrial chemical regulations. Suppliers typically offer packaging in drums and IBCs.
