Polytetramethylene ether glycol

Polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG, also known as PTHF or polytetrahydrofuran) is a linear polyether diol produced by the ring-opening polymerisation of tetrahydrofuran. In polyurethane elastomer production, PTMEG acts as a soft-segment building block, reacting with diisocyanates to deliver low-temperature flexibility and hydrolysis resistance in finished parts. In spandex and elastic fibre manufacturing, its controlled molecular weight determines the elastic recovery and elongation characteristics of the resulting polymer chains.

PTMEG is supplied in several molecular weight grades, typically ranging from 650 to 3000 g/mol, available as a fused mass requiring heated storage and handling.
