Posaconazole

Posaconazole (CAS 171228-49-2, EC 682-747-8) is a triazole antifungal compound developed under the trade name Noxafil and also referenced as SCH-56592 or Sch 56592. It carries no assigned E-code. The molecular formula is C37H42F2N8O4.

In pharmaceutical development, posaconazole serves as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and research reference standard for antifungal drug formulations targeting invasive fungal infections such as aspergillosis and candidiasis. It works by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450 14-alpha-demethylase, blocking ergosterol biosynthesis and disrupting cell membrane integrity.
