Description

Potassium alum (CAS 10043-67-1) is an inorganic aluminium potassium sulphate salt, commercially known as potash alum or simply alum. It is registered under EC 233-141-3 and supplied as a white hygroscopic powder. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In water treatment, potassium alum acts as a coagulant by hydrolyzing in solution to form aluminium hydroxide flocs that bind suspended particles and colloids for removal. In textile and leather processing, it functions as a mordant, fixing dyes to fibres through coordination bonding. Personal care formulators use it as an astringent and preservation aid in deodorant and aftershave applications.

Potassium alum is available in food-grade, technical, and Ph.Eur.-compliant grades, with FCC-grade material suitable for food contact applications. The substance is registered under REACH and fully compliant with EU chemical regulations. Typical supply formats include 25 kg bags and bulk quantities on request.
