Description
Potassium carbonate (K2CO3), also known as potash or pearl ash, is an inorganic alkali salt registered under CAS 584-08-7 and EC 209-529-3. It carries no E-code designation for direct food additive use in the EU but is permitted as a processing aid in specific food applications under applicable regulations.
In coatings and adhesives, K2CO3 acts as a pH buffer and catalyst, accelerating crosslinking reactions and stabilising formulations against acid degradation. In textile processing, it raises bath pH to activate reactive dyes and saponify sizing agents. Personal care formulators use it as a skin conditioner and antimicrobial agent in soap and cream preparations.
Potassium carbonate is available in food-grade, technical, and pharmaceutical grades, with Ph.Eur.-compliant material supplied for healthcare applications. It is offered as fine powder or granular form and is fully registered under REACH. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities, with HS code 28364000 applicable for import and export.
