Description

Potassium chloride (CAS 7447-40-7) is an inorganic salt composed of potassium and chlorine, commercially known under trade names including Enseal, Klotrix, Kaon-Cl, Rekawan, and Kalitabs. It carries no E-number designation in the EU but is regulated under food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.

In food processing, potassium chloride functions as a sodium chloride substitute, delivering saltiness while reducing dietary sodium load through ionic interaction with taste receptors. In water treatment, it regenerates ion-exchange softening resins by displacing calcium and magnesium ions. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a buffering agent, maintaining target pH ranges in parenteral formulations and electrolyte solutions.

Potassium chloride is available in food-grade (FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP), and technical-grade forms, supplied as granules or powder. It is fully registered under REACH and complies with EU fertiliser regulation EC 2003/2003 for agricultural applications. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities on request.
