Description

Potassium citrate (CAS 866-84-2) is the tripotassium salt of citric acid, commercially known under trade names including Kajos, Porekal, and Seltz-K. It carries no E-number designation in the EU but is recognised as a food-grade buffering and sequestering agent in multiple regulatory frameworks.

In food and beverage manufacturing, potassium citrate neutralises acidity and stabilises pH in dairy products, soft drinks, and processed foods by donating or accepting protons within a controlled range. In pharmaceutical formulations, it raises urinary pH to inhibit calcium oxalate crystal formation, and in personal care products it chelates metal ions that would otherwise destabilise emulsions or accelerate oxidation.

Potassium citrate is available in food-grade, FCC, and Ph.Eur.-compliant grades as anhydrous powder or monohydrate crystals. It is fully registered under REACH and supplied in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities to meet industrial procurement requirements.
