Potassium ferrocyanide

Potassium ferrocyanide (CAS 13943-58-3, EC 237-722-2) is an inorganic potassium salt commonly abbreviated as K4[Fe(CN)6] and also known as potassium ferrocyanate or tetrapotassium ferrocyanide. It does not carry an E-code designation for food additive use in the EU.

In water treatment, it functions as a sequestrant by binding free iron ions, preventing scale formation and discolouration in distribution systems. In mining and metals processing, it serves as a selective precipitant for heavy metals such as copper and zinc, removing them from process streams through chelation. The textile and leather industries use it as a component in dyeing and finishing baths.

Potassium ferrocyanide is available in technical and food-contact grades as lemon-yellow crystals or powder. Procurement should confirm REACH registration status and supplier safety data sheets prior to ordering. Standard packaging formats include 25 kg bags and bulk quantities depending on supplier specification.
