Potassium isoamyl xanthate

CAS 928-70-1
Organometallic Compounds Mining & Metals Coagulation & Flocculation

Description

Potassium Isoamyl Xanthate (CAS 928-70-1), also known as potassium isopentyl xanthate or potassium O-isoamyl xanthate, is an organometallic xanthate salt used as a collector reagent in mineral processing. It is commonly abbreviated as PIAX or KAX-5 in industrial contexts.

In sulphide ore flotation, Potassium Isoamyl Xanthate selectively adsorbs onto the surface of target metal sulphide minerals — including copper, lead, and zinc sulphides — rendering them hydrophobic so they attach to air bubbles and separate from gangue material. Its longer isoamyl carbon chain provides stronger collector action compared to shorter-chain xanthates, making it effective for coarser or more refractory sulphide ores.

Potassium Isoamyl Xanthate is supplied as a powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU import and use. Procurement should confirm SDS compliance with CLP/GHS classification, as xanthate salts carry flammability and environmental hazard designations. Packaging formats and minimum order quantities vary by supplier.
