Description

Potassium lauryl sulfate (KLS) is an anionic surfactant derived from lauryl alcohol and sulfuric acid, neutralised with potassium hydroxide. It is commercially available under trade names including Texapon K, Nikkol KLS, Stepanol P 30, Cycloryl KA-45, and Conco Sulfate P. No E-code designation applies to this ingredient.

In personal care formulations, KLS functions as a primary foaming and cleansing agent by lowering interfacial tension between oils and water, enabling effective soil removal in shampoos and cleansers. In textile and leather processing, it acts as a wetting and emulsifying agent, improving dye penetration and lubricant dispersion across fibre surfaces.

KLS is typically supplied as a liquid concentrate or paste in IBC containers and drums. It falls under REACH registration requirements for EU market supply. Procurement teams should confirm grade specification and active content percentage with the supplier prior to ordering.
