Description

Potassium stannate, also known as dipotassium stannate or potassium metastannate (CAS 12142-33-5, EC 235-255-9), is an inorganic tin(IV) salt supplied as colorless crystals. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive. The molecular formula is K2SnO3.

In alkaline electroplating baths for electronics, potassium stannate serves as the primary tin source, releasing stannate ions that deposit uniform, adherent tin coatings onto metal substrates. In textile and leather processing, it functions as a weighting and softening agent by bonding to fiber surfaces, modifying hand feel and increasing substrate density.

Potassium stannate is supplied as a technical-grade crystalline solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. Buyers should confirm tin content specification and packaging format directly with the supplier, as standard offerings typically range from laboratory quantities to bulk industrial packaging.
