Potassium sulfate

Potassium sulfate (CAS 7778-80-5, EC 231-915-5), also known as dipotassium sulfate, sal polychrestum, and arcanum duplicatum, is an inorganic salt with the formula K2SO4. It carries no E-code designation but is recognised under HS code 31043000 for trade classification purposes.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, potassium sulfate functions as a catalyst and stabiliser in synthesis processes, where its ionic properties help control reaction selectivity. In agriculture, it delivers both potassium and sulfur to crops without raising soil chloride levels, making it the preferred potassium source for chloride-sensitive plants. It also serves as an antimicrobial additive in select food and feed formulations.
