Potassium tetraborate

Potassium tetraborate (CAS 1332-77-0), also known as dipotassium tetraborate, potassium biborate, or potassium borate, is an inorganic boron salt supplied as a white crystalline powder. It carries no assigned E-code and is registered under EC number 215-575-5.

In water treatment, potassium tetraborate acts as a pH buffer and mild biocide, inhibiting microbial growth in process water and cooling systems. In textile and leather processing, it functions as a flame retardant and preservative by forming stable borate complexes that interrupt combustion chemistry and resist biological degradation.

Potassium tetraborate is available in technical grade and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Union. It is typically supplied in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities.
