Description

Propylene glycol butyl ether (CAS 5131-66-8), also known as PNB, 1-butoxy-2-propanol, and sold under trade names including Solvenon PnB and ARCOSOLV PNB, is a glycol ether solvent with the molecular formula C7H16O2. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 2909.49.6000.

In coatings and printing inks, PNB functions as a coalescing agent and flow modifier, slowing evaporation to improve film formation and reduce surface defects. In industrial cleaning and automotive degreasers, its moderate polarity allows it to solubilise both hydrocarbon residues and water-miscible contaminants, making it effective in aqueous cleaning concentrates.

PNB is supplied as a technical-grade clear liquid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. It is available in standard drum and IBC packaging formats. Buyers should confirm grade specifications and SDS documentation with the supplier prior to procurement.
