Description

Propylene Glycol Monostearate (PGMS, CAS 1323-39-3) is a fatty acid ester of propylene glycol derived from stearic acid. It is sold under trade names including Teginp, Nonex 32, Crill 26, and Dragil-P. No E-number is assigned under EU food additive legislation.

In food and personal care manufacturing, PGMS functions as an emulsifier by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases, stabilising emulsions in baked goods, margarine, and cream-based cosmetics. In plastics processing, it acts as a plasticiser and internal lubricant, improving polymer flow and reducing brittleness in PVC and similar systems.

PGMS is available in food-grade and technical-grade specifications, supplied as beads or flakes. It is subject to REACH registration and can be sourced to FCC standards for food applications and Ph.Eur. compliance for pharmaceutical use. HS code 2918.19.9000 applies for EU import and export classification.
